Hiking with the National Park Rangers

The rich flora and fauna in Hohe Tauern National Park is just begging to be discovered – uncover the valley's treasures in Rauris Valley with National Park Rangers:

Head out in the "Tracks of the Vulture", investigate the "Secrets of the forest", be enchanted by the "Magic of the Water", head out on a  "voyage into the Arctic" or take a "glimpse into the Tauern window", hike on the "Roman road" and head out on a search in the "fabulous gold mountains", feel like a hunter and gatherer of yore during guided tours of  the herb garden and while observing animals in the wild …

And as you hike on the mule tracks, pilgrims routes, miners paths and Alpine paths, travel amidst the geology of the valley, learn about the history of the people here, the fragile balance of the Alpine flora and fauna and appreciate the treasures in the National Park…

Individual hikes

The most natural areas in Rauris Valley, the most magnificent Alpine pastures, the best views to the three-thousand metre mountains… 295 kilometres signposted hiking trails "lie" at your feet.

You won't just get tips when you chat to the Birkenhof's hiking guide Doris, you will also learn about new, attractive destinations: there will certainly also be an opportunity to take part in the guided "hotel hike"!

With others or on your own you can hike to the wonderful Seidlwinkl valley, which is home to the 500 year-old Rauris Tauernhaus; to the Kruml valley, the sleeping area and breeding ground of the bearded vulture and to Hüttwinkl valley, back to the valley head of Kolm Saigurn…

The Birkenhof's Reception can provide numerous tips for hiking tours and the Birkenhof's hiking guide Doris can provide individual suggestions for your "route planning"!

For experienced Alpinists, mountaineers and sporty mountain hikers

Anyone looking for a challenge can head out on a 7-day trekking tour along the Arnoweg trail, from three-thousand metre mountain to three-thousand metre mountain, and from lodge to lodge. The "Wettermacher, Goldgräber und Tauernsäumer" route is just the ticket for sporty mountain hikers and mountaineers who have some Alpine experience. From Rauris valley head at Kolm Saigurn the route proceeds via the Hohen Sonnblick and Zittelhaus via Heiligenblut and the glacier trail via Kaiser Franz Josef Höhe to Glocknerhaus; via Pfandlscharte to Trauneralm and via Fusch and Imbachhorn to Bruck.
